Life Legacy
Herbert Swart Jr., 83 of Cherry Street, Gloversville died Saturday June 26, 2010 at the Nathan Littauer Hospital following a long illness. He was born in Gloversville, NY on March 29, 1927. The son of the late; Herbert and Ella Mae Allen Swart. He worked for various leather mills throughout the years lastly employed for Crown in Johnstown.
He was a member of the VFW in Gloversville where he was employed as a bartender. He was an active and longtime member for over 47 years of the Berkshire Vol. Fire Department. He enjoyed playing cards, pool and spending time with his friends and family.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Sandra Oathout Swart of Gloversville whom he married on September 28, 1952.
He is also survived by his children; Randall Swart of Taberg, NY, Bradley Swart of Gloversville, Brett (Michele) Swart of Gloversville, Scott (Mandy) Swart of Massena, Arla (Gregory) Lehr of Mayfield and Sheila Eggleston of Gloversville. Thirteen grandchildren, several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his two brothers; Ernest E. Swart and Joseph Loomas and his sister Doris Steenburg.
Friends may call on Wednesday June 30, 2010 from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Gloversville Funeral Service, 4 Second Ave, Gloversville where a funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Burial will be held in Saratoga National Cemetery following the services at 1 p.m. Condolences may be made to the family online at www.gloversvillefuneralservice.com.
